IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT (updated information on June 26 3.20PM): 

It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce that our beloved leader, benefactor and friend, our Mother, our Father, Rev. Swami Tathagatanandaji Maharaj has entered Maha Samadhi at approximately 1:20 PM eastern time, on Saturday, June 25, 2016.

Those who wish to pay their final respects can visit the Riverside Memorial Chapel on Sunday, June 26 between the hours of 1-4 PM.

Cremation services will be perfomed on June 27 at 1.30 PM at Garden State Crematory (4101 Kennedy Blvd, North Bergen, New Jersey; Telephone: 201-867-0219). The hearse will proceed from the Vedanta Society of New York (34 W 71 St, New York) at 12.30 PM sharp. Devotees who can provide rides to others are requested to assemble at the Society no later than 12.15 PM.  If you can offer a ride, you can text your information to Pradip Bose at 914-299-6600.



 Swami Tathagatananda, a senior monk of the Ramakrishna Order, is the Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of VSNY since 1976.

Vivekananda Festival, July 4

The fifty-fifth annual 4th of July Vivekananda Festival will take place at Ridgely Manor in upstate New York. Please see details in this letter.

     Vedanta Society of New York (VSNY) is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, VSNY is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was an historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago.

     Swami Vivekananda was the first teacher of Vedanta to come to the West, who drew wide acclaim by his electrifying addresses at the World's Parliament of Religions held in Chicago in 1893. After the conclusion of the Parliament, a group of American students interested to learn more about Vedanta gathered about the Swami, and the first Vedanta Center in the West was started in New York City.

     Vedanta Society of New York bases its teachings on the System of Vedanta , especially as explained by Sri Ramakrishna (1836-1886) and his chief disciple Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902) and as demonstrated in their lives.

     The Society is one of the number of Vedanta Centers in the US, and is guided by Swamis (monks) of the Order, who serve as ministers.
